A Beautiful Thought from My Guru, K. N. Rao My respected Guru Shri K. N. Rao once wrote a very beautiful explanation about a question that has troubled humanity for thousands of years: Is our life already destined, or are we the creators of our own life? Our ancient scriptures suggest that some events in life may already be part of a cosmic order. In the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that the destruction of the Kauravas has already been decided - Arjuna will simply become the instrument. But this does not mean that human beings have no freedom. My Guru gives a very simple and powerful example. Imagine a cow tied to a peg with a rope. The cow is not completely free, but within the length of the rope it can move wherever it wants. Human life works in the same way. Some things may already be fixed - such as birth, family, and certain key events. But within those boundaries, our choices, effort, and actions shape the direction of our lives. That is why astrology is not just about predicting fate. It is a tool to understand life’s possibilities and responsibilities. This is why our tradition says: “Karma is the foundation on which the world operates.” Destiny may set the stage, but our actions decide how the story unfolds.
If anyone else was wondering what Bhakti Yoga is, I found this explanation: ‘Bhakti Yoga is defined as intense, selfless love for the Divine, acting as both the means and the end of spiritual practice. Key quotes emphasize that it transforms the heart, fosters universal love, and is higher than mere knowledge, as highlighted by Swami Vivekananda. It is a path of emotional surrender rather than intellectual reasoning.’
The entire universe is to be looked upon as the Lord.
