Loneliness and social isolation are different but related. Loneliness is the distressing feeling of being alone, while social isolation involves having few social contacts and people to interact with regularly. You can live alone without feeling lonely or socially isolated, and conversely, you can feel lonely even in the company of others. For instance, if you don’t hear well you can be around people, not engage in conversation well. Or maybe you can’t get out of a chair easily, stand for long…be sure if you have a friend that asks you to do something…you’re not available or interested—follow up and ask them to do something…it can make a difference in reducing isolation. https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/healthy-aging/participating-activities-you-enjoy-you-age?&utm_source=nia-eblast&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=general-20250915
