A Blessing for a Beautifully Ordinary Life This blessing is for old, chipped coffee mugs filled with store-brand grounds And for the back door, which never closes exactly right. It's for waking up under thick blankets that pill around the corners And for the way the dryer spins around and around in synchrony. It's for the plant you reposition in every window, hoping it will survive, And for the way the dog tap, tap, taps across the hardwood floor. This blessing is for an ordinary life, Warm and simple, genuine and full. It is for crowded tables and pots of chili, For and the "bye, love you" before the door closes. It is for family, blood and chosen, For the car horn that beeps in the driveway when it's time to leave, And for the person who always buys your favorite cereal. Pt1
