GOING DEEPER IN GOD When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [waterl, and lower your nets for a haul. LUKE 5:4 Peter and the disciples had been fishing all night and caught nothing. They must have been weary and disappointed. When they obeyed Jesus' instruction to fish again, this time in the deep water, they caught so many fish that they needed other boats to help them haul in the catch. We all need to go deeper in God. The apostle Paul understood this. He writes: [For my determined purpose is that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that 1 may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] that if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts mel out from among the dead leven while in the body]. (Philippians 3:10-11) If things are not working well in your life, perhaps you need less of yourself and more of God. Don't be a surface Christian, but one who has a deep relationship with the Lord. Confession: I am obedient to God and have a deep, personal relationship with Him.
