In Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu come from the same being, not two separate planets.
According to the ancient story, during the Samudra Manthan, the demon Swarbhanu disguised himself as a god and drank the nectar of immortality. The Sun and Moon recognized him, and Lord Vishnu cut him into two parts. Because the nectar had already reached his throat, both parts became immortal:
the head became Rahu, and the body became Ketu.
They are shadow planets, not physical planets. Astronomically, they represent the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the Sun’s path — Rahu is the North Node, and Ketu is the South Node.
Since they have no physical body, they do not rule any zodiac sign.
But wherever they sit in a chart, they strongly influence that house and sign.
For example, Ketu in the 2nd house often shows past-life detachment from family, wealth, or food.
Rahu and Ketu represent deep karmic lessons, past-life energies, spiritual growth, detachment, and sudden life changes.
