Anyone else pull away from people when they’re going through a rough patch?

Not me, but someone I really care about has been pulling away from me. I believe he’s going through something. It’s kind of hard for me to feel so helpless to do anything for him, when I know he’s hurting and also that he probably wants space. I wish I would understand better, what it’s like.

They could be experiencing this, have you spoken with him? Ask him how you can be there for him? I’ve been on both sides and it’s not easy. Hope you huys manage to figure it out 🤗

I’m currently really scared that I break his boundaries if I message him. Even though he didn’t directly state it, I gathered from his previous answers that he wanted space. I have in my head kind of come up with a date, when I’ll approach him, if he doesn’t talk first before then. His birthday is coming up. I really want to talk with him about this reaction of his and gain some more understanding of his point of view.

Then it’s probably best that you listen to your instinct. Give them the space they need and when the time’s right, you can check in with them to see where they’re at and tell them that you care and wish to reconnect when they’re ready. Then maybe ask them to give you an idea of how long they’ll need. That way they know you’re giving them space but also that you need to talk. Really hope it works out well for you🙏
