THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come. JOHN 16:13 NIV The Holy Spirit reveals truth to us as we are able to receive it. This process continues throughout our lives. God's Word is truth, and anything that does not agree with His Word is a lie (a falsehood or deception). If God's Word tells me to forgive my enemies and I make an excuse for not doing it, I am operating in deception. God doesn't want our excuses; He wants our obedience. Simply knowing the truth won't set us free, but as we apply the truth to our lives, we will experience freedom from the bondages of the past. Don't disobey and make the excuse that obeying what God asks is just too hard. Nothing God asks us to do is too hard because He is our Strength and our Helper. When we talk about "truth," it is often the truth about ourselves we must face in order to be set free. I prayed a long time for Dave to change until God showed me that I was the one who needed to change, not Dave. I had many problems that I was blaming on other people, including Dave. Once I started taking responsibility for my behavior, God began changing me. It wasn't easy, but it was easier than remaining in bondage. Confession: I will study God's Word so I can learn the truth, and with God's help I will apply the truth to my life.
