While that is possible, on average adults need 7-9hrs a night. With either approach you need to be meeting your need which allows you to feel rested, alert and in feasibly good mood all day, every day. The sleep pattern you describe is one westerners used before there were electric lights. People would go to bed shortly after sunset, sleep a few hours, get up and do things like socializing, return to sleep and arise at dawn.
