Any other parent worried about passing down their own least favorable traits to their kids? And how do you prevent this from happening?

That’s such an important reflection 💛 I think just being aware of those traits already puts you miles ahead, it means you’re conscious and intentional about how you show up.

Thanks Riley, it’s something that often crosses my mind. Lately im beginning to think that if we are honest with it to our kids, then they grow up realizing that their parents are not perfect but are trying to be the best versions of themselves and I think that actually might be a more realistic model for them then pretending we’re perfect.

I hear you. It can be such a challenge but like Riley said, the fact that we are aware of this is a good start. And like I just replied to Riley, I’m beginning to see it with different eyes lately. I think that if we are honest about our struggles with our own limits with our kids, then they grow up realizing that their parents are not perfect but are trying to be the best versions of themselves and I think that actually might be a more realistic model for them then pretending we’re perfect. It shows them that we are humans like them and we make mistakes, learn and grow. ❤️

That makes so much sense. We are giving them tools to deal with their own growth and how to handle undesirable traits of their own (and/or others). It also shows that even when people present with some negative reaction or trait, they don’t mean to - they still have a good heart, they just need an adjustment, that’s all. I didn’t think of it that way before. Thanks. That’s really uplifting and empowering. Much like Riley’s comment about being conscious and intentional. I am just now learning how to be conscious and intentional on purpose and this thread is really empowering. 💕

We are humans and we are also learning all the time. As long as your heart and intentions are good and we acknowledge, take responsibility of and rectify when we make a mistake, then I believe we are teaching our kids to be better human beings, not perfect (that does not exist!) Making mistakes is part of learning and growing, it’s how we deal with them afterwards that matters. I’m glad this feed is helping you, it helps me too. We’ve got this! 😄
