Generally I explain to them the behavior. Give them a chance to correct it. I also tend to go philosophical on them. lol. Basic stoicism. If that doesn’t work I tend to block them. As far as co workers, they never get or have my number. I’ve found it’s always a bad idea.

Hi Linda, I think it’s important to have ‘those’ difficult conversations with her… it’s important to respect your own boundaries. you can say something like ‘hey, can we talk about other more positive or inspirational things as this is getting me down’ or you can challenge her and say ‘what good things does your stepson do?’ or ‘I like this about our co workers’ etc. I believe the best policy is honesty but with kindness. Set your boundaries and stand by them for your own mental health and hopefully this will help her become more self aware and do something about her issues too.
