One of the hardest realizations is understanding that someone you care about deeply cannot meet you where you are emotionally. It is painful because you can see who they could be. You notice the glimpses of kindness, the moments where it almost feels like things might grow into something deeper. That hope makes it difficult to accept what is actually happening. But potential is not the same as effort, and love cannot create depth where someone refuses to grow. No amount of patience can make another person become who you need them to be.
