Learning how to be on my own side For a long time, I was loyal to everyone except myself. I gave people understanding I wasn't giving myself. I defended people while constantly criticizing my own mistakes. I offered grace to others and judgment to myself. Looking back, I can see how unbalanced that relationship was. The relationship I have with myself changed when I stopped treating my own needs like an inconvenience. When I stopped questioning every feeling, dismissing every instinct, and talking myself out of things I knew were affecting me. I began listening instead of arguing with myself. Trusting instead of doubting. Supporting instead of abandoning. I've realized that self-worth is not just about confidence. It's about knowing you'll be there for yourself when life becomes difficult. It's about believing your own experiences, honoring your own feelings, and refusing to betray yourself for acceptance. The more I learn to be on my own side, the less I need the world to constantly reassure me that I'm enough.
