Lonely Monday night On nights like tonight, when my daughter is with her dad, I like to light a candle, sit on my cheap Amazon futon, and listen to the sounds from my downtown apartment. Sometimes, my neighbors slam their door. Other times, I can hear change rattling in the washer downstairs. Many times, I hear cars driving along the main street, blasting tunes or revving their engines. Most of the time, it's just the sound of my fridge running, or the heat kicking on or off, or my heart beating through my chest and up to my temples. Yes, it's a bit lonely, but I like it. On these nights, I sleep well.
