Sacral Chakra Activity #1: Cravings are a huge cause of relapse in early recovery, but they are not permanent states. Each individual craving will usually pass within 15 to 30 minutes, as long as you do not feed it with impulsive action or obsessive thought. They are like waves in the ocean that peak and eventually crash and subside. Your ocean will be tumultuous at times, especially in the beginning but you can become a skilled navigator over time. That's the purpose of the Sacral Chakra: learning to flow with the water rather than drowning in it. Engage in the following 3-step Urge Surfing practice anytime you need it (it may seem ridiculous or unhelpful at first, but with practice and time it'll get easier and occur less often): 1. Acknowledge: When a craving hits, pause. Say aloud, "I am experiencing a craving right now." 2. Locate: Where do you feel it in your body? (A tight chest, a buzzing in the stomach, clenched jaw?) 3. Breathe and Ride: Imagine the craving as an ocean wave. You are on a surfboard. You cannot stop the wave, but you can ride it out. Breathe deeply into the physical sensation without trying to change it.
