While the standard Heart Chakra deals with personal love and immediate relationships, the Higher Heart (often called the Thymus Chakra) is the seat of transpersonal love, unconditional compassion, and deep karmic healing. It is located in the upper chest, between the breastbone and the throat. Its colors are typically turquoise, aqua, or soft white-pink. Individuals in active addiction accumulate massive amounts of toxic shame, falsely believing their destructive actions define their core worth, which keep the cycle of addiction spinning. We will be moving beyond personal love into universal compassion and transforming toxic shame into constructive guilt. Our work will center on deep self-forgiveness and acknowledging that past coping mechanisms, however destructive, were survival tools that are now being replaced.
