Hey Emma, the “gongyo” is a chant where we recite the 2 aforementioned chapters of the lotus sutra in Japanese twice everyday.
It creates a morning/ evening routine to pray and tap into your highest potential (Buddhahood) everyday.
Alongside diamoku (chanting Nam myoho renge kyo daily), we also recite the “gongyo” (2 chapters of the lotus sutra- “Thus Come One” and “Expedient Means” everyday). These chapters are in Japanese. While slightly daunting it first, it took me about a few weeks- 2 months to learn the gongyo by heart. Now, it’s like the most easy and natural routine to follow. I don’t even realize it. Starting my day with gongyo and daimoku is refreshing and energizing. It motivates me to achieve my goals through the day.
