When Your Body Doesn’t Trust “Love and Light” I’ve been learning more about how trauma affects the nervous system, and it’s changed how I see spirituality. Honestly, sometimes I just can’t relate to fuzzy affirmations and “positive healing vibrations.” Ideas like surrender, openness, and trust sound good, but they don’t always feel safe in the body. If you’ve experienced trauma, your system is wired to prioritize safety first—so “letting go” or “trusting” can actually feel threatening, even if part of you wants them. These reactions aren’t just mindset—they’re physiological. Your nervous system is constantly scanning for safety, and it responds automatically. If something feels too open, uncertain, or out of your control, your body may resist it without you choosing to. That’s protection. This is why grounding can be more helpful than trying to jump into higher states. Slowing down, noticing your surroundings, or repeating small, predictable rituals can help your body feel safer over time. Safety isn’t something you force—it’s something your body learns gradually. I’m starting to see that spirituality doesn’t have to mean rising above your experience. Sometimes it’s staying with yourself in a way that actually feels manageable. 🟣 The Purple Phoenix Collective
