The root chakra is all about the physical plane. Focus on your physical reality. Meditation is one way to open your chakras, but it's not the only way. Although there's a misconception about meditation as well. Every time you realize you're not focusing, just pull your mind back. And that's actually the meditation. Every time you pull your mind back your training it, so you're actually doing better than someone who just stays focused the entire time.
