All of the struggle you went through is proof that your purpose is big, your purpose is important, and you're unraveling in such a way that suggests your biggest hurdles are behind you. In order for you to fulfill the role of what was destined for you, the character facade needed to be removed. Not everyone goes through that process. It's difficult and arduous, but it also comes with the best result; an ability to live in an untarnished authentically pure state.
