Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway (Haakon Magnus; born 20 July 1973) is the second child and only son of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, and heir apparent to the throne of Norway. He represents the fourth generation of the sitting Norwegian royal family of the House of Glücksburg.
Haakon has an older sister, Princess Märtha Louise. For members of the royal family born between 1971 and 1990, the order of succession to the throne is set according to patrilineal primogeniture; accordingly, Haakon became Crown Prince when his father ascended the throne on 17 January 1991 upon the death of his grandfather Olav V.In 2001, Haakon married Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby with whom he has two children; Princess Ingrid Alexandra, and Prince Sverre Magnus. The Skaugum Estate, situated in the area of Semsvannet, is the official residence of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.Haakon holds a military as well as civil education. He completed his training for Naval Officer in the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1995. He holds a BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley (1999) and an MSc in development studies from the London School of Economics (2004). As Crown Prince, he is a general in both the Norwegian Army and the Royal Norwegian Air Force, as well as being an admiral in the Royal Norwegian Navy.
