Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is an Ugandan millitary commander serves as the commander of the land forces of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) and who was previously the commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC). Both the UPDF and the SFC are accused of using excessive force and abductions; Muhoozi and other senior officials are mentioned in an International Criminal Court complaint. In 2017 Muhoozi, the son of president Museveni, was appointed Presidential Adviser, fueling speculations he is being prepared for the presidency. He was reappointed as the Commander of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) in December 2020. Lt. Gen. Muhoozi served in the same position from 2008 to 2017.On 30 November 2021, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo launched a joint military offensive against the Ugandan rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Eastern Congo dubbed 'Operation Shujaa' which loosely translates to 'Operation Hero' with Shujaa a Swahili language word meaning hero. Muhoozi leads Uganda's forces in the offensive and His Deputy, Maj. Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the UPDF Mountain Division Commander leads the Ugandan contingent of ground troops in Eastern DRC.
