Lamed is referred to as the "Path of Justice" as it is the path that focuses on law, justice, peace, and balance, and tends to be followed by those who become lawyers, judges, advocates and who engage in other types of diplomacy or negotiations. Lamed connects the sephirots, or spheres, of Gevurah and Tiphereth in the Hebrew Tree of Life. Gevurah occupies the 5th position in the Tree of Life and the sphere is associated with restraint and discipline, the challenges and the conflicts that we need to overcome in life, and the capabilities and qualities that we must possess in order to face these challenges. Tiphereth occupies the 6th position in the Tree of Life and is associated with Beauty, representing our inner self - our soul - revealing the inner meaning of our lives, our purpose, our ideals and objectives.
