In Western Christianity, The Passion of Saint John the Baptist, also referred to as the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, is one of the very oldest liturgical feasts on the Church’s calendar, and commemorates the martyrdom by beheading of Saint John the Baptist on the orders of Herod Antipas through the vengeful request of his step-daughter Salome and her mother Herodias.
