In Western Christianity, Saint Katharine Drexel, who was a Virgin and a Saint, is considered to be the Patron Saint of racial justice and philanthropists.

After inheriting a fortune from her father, she used her inheritance to found the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, a congregation of missionary nuns dedicated to the welfare of American Indians and African Americans, and to champion the causes of racial minorities in the United States by establishing a number of schools and churches to serve them.
