In Science, Chinese New Year, also known as the "Spring Festival", is an event recognized around the world in late January or early February to mark the beginning of a new year in the Chinese sexagenary (60-year) cycle.

This new year is celebrated as the Year of the Wood Dragon.

The sexagenary cycle has its roots in Daoism, and is used as a way to track the natural flow of the universe, where each year has a symbolic animal associated with it, as well as an element. These signs and elements are often interpreted to have practical significance using Daoism's "Ba-Zi" tradition, popularly known as the "Chinese Zodiac".
