In Eastern Christianity, The Protection of Mother Mary, also called the "Intercession of the Theotokos", commemorates a miracle reported in the 10th century in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul) when the Viring Mary descended from heaven in order to provide protection to the city from an invasion and extended her protection to all of mankind.
