The Elephant Festival

[object Object]

In Buddhism, The Elephant Festival, which is a festival that encourages people who are new to Buddhism to develop a relationship with an older Buddhist, takes place on the third Saturday in November.

According to Buddhist legends, Queen Maya, the mother of Siddhartha Gautama (who would later become the Buddha), dreamt of a white elephant offering her a lotus flower on the eve of Siddhartha's conception. This dream was interpreted as a sign that she would give birth to a great leader or a holy man.

For this reason, elephants are often revered and celebrated in Buddhism, particularly on this day.
