During the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, Hoshanot is performed each morning after the Torah reading during the synagogue service.

Sukkot is a weeklong Jewish holiday that comes five days after Yom Kippur. Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the miraculous protection God provided for the Israelites when they left Egypt.

Here is how you can participate in a Hoshanat:

1) Join an in-person or virtual synogogue service

2) Carry a lulav and etrog (a bundle of palm, myrtle, and willow branches, and a citron fruit) in your hands.

3) Circle a bimah (a raised platform in the synagogue where the Torah is read). On the seventh day of Sukkot, you circle the bimah seven times.

4) As you circle the bimah, recite the Hoshanot, which are a series of supplications asking for God's salvation. The word "Hoshanot" is derived from the Hebrew words "Hosha'na" (Please save) which is repeated throughout these prayers.
