Contemplation of the Divine Light meditation
Transform yourself with holy light
Eastern Orthodox
A deep, ancient form of Christianity with sacred traditions, icons, and prayers that bring people closer to God and their spiritual community.
In the Bible, Psalms 1 says that "Blessed is the man that...doth he meditate day and night". And the Christian tradition of solitary meditation is inspired by Jesus’ own prayer life and teachings, where he would frequently go off to a solitary or deserted place to pray.
The "Contemplation of the Divine Light" meditation is an Eastern Christian practice based on the occurence in the Bible when, in Matthew 17:2–9, Jesus was transfigured into a being "shining like the sun".
This meditation draws upon that example as evidence that all Christians can contemplate the divine Light and undergo a spiritual transformation similar to the one that Jesus underwent.
By contemplating God as divine light and seeking to embrace this light, it is believed that you can undergo a process called "Theosis" whereby you are spiritually transformed - still remaining human but also becoming closer to God's essence.
