This Daoist breathing exercise uses "Xu" - one of the "Six Healing Sounds" or Liu Zi Jue - to foster compassion and kindness and to reinforce the Earth element element in the body. This exercise is also believed to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach.

To do it, inhale deeply and slowly through the nose, filling the lungs completely. As you exhale, open your mouth and say the "Xu" sound (pronounced as "shoo") softly and gently.
